Make It Yourself Workshop

Hey kids in grades 3 through 8, explore creative science in your world. Tinker, experiment and learn to make it yourself!!

Join us for a series of workshops where children connect fun, hands-on projects to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Local STEM professionals provide “real world” perspective and mentoring.

Program Details and Pricing

  • Programs are for kids in grades 3 – 8.
  • Workshop cost per participant: FREE with your paid admission or membership.
  • Regular Science Factory rates apply: Members are FREE, All Visitors are $9.00.
  • Program sessions are Sundays, from 2 – 3:30 pm.

The Master of the Mess, Luke Netherton, Returns for Maker Space: Traveling to New Heights with Bottle Rockets

Take your creativity to new heights as you and your child construct Soda Bottle Rockets. Watch how different designs of cones, vertical stabilizers and rudders impact flight. Does your design reach for the stars or harness lateral flight?

October 8:

The Hershey Story Joins the Lancaster Science Factory for  Taste Bud Science: The Tour of Chocolates

Take your tongue on a taste bud challenge in the “Tour of Chocolates” with an educator from The Hershey Story. You will put your senses to the test as they explain how you taste different flavors even though it’s all simply chocolate.

December 10:

Bob Lydum with Agilent Technologies, presents Science in Motion: Hydro Lift                                                      

Participants will build their own hydro lift and learn about the transfer of energy used to increase force.  Use your newly founded creation to demonstrate the principles of Hydraulics and see if you can recognize where it might be useful in the working world.
