Home School Awareness Month

Join us at Lancaster Science Factory in October as Factory Direct Science unveils our new topic: Electricity! Look for the new classes listed below, as well as a return of one of our Factory Direct Math classes. Also, we are continuing our group rate offer for October, and still have the Fall Season Pass available.

Generation Electricity: All this electricity we use, where does it come from? Generate your own electricity, make a battery with household items, and turn the hand crank to power appliances. Find out how the electricity you use everyday is made, and how it gets to you at Generation Electricity. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 or 1:30. Designed for ages 6 and up. $10

Measure for Measure: How long, far, fast, high, old, heavy is it? We'll investigate all these questions and more as we use real measuring equipment. For an extra challenge, we will attempt to create a six layer density column, liquid sitting on top of liquid. Can we do it? Find out at Measure for Measure. Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 10:30 or 1:30. Designed for ages 6 and up. $9

Currently Static: Ever gotten a shock? Is that the same electricity that runs the lights in our house? What's the difference between static electricity and current electricity? Come feel the power of static and use current to create your own circuits at Currently Static. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 10:30 or 1:30. Designed for ages 6 and up. $10

Electromagnetism: Crazy as it sounds, electricity and magnetism go together like, well, like they're attracted by magnets. Study magnets and learn how they can make electricity. Then use electricity to make a powerful magnet. Master the power of Electromagnetism. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 10:30 or 1:30. Designed for ages 6 and up. $10

Parents are welcome to attend with their children at no extra charge. The cost of the class also allows both registered students and their parents to stay at Lancaster Science Factory to enjoy our exhibits after the class. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required, so call Erich Goldstein at 717.509.6387 to reserve your spot.

Group Rate: Normally we offer our group rate of $4.50/person to groups of 10 or more. But for October, we are happy to offer the group rate to home school families for any size group. Be it only 2 or 102, you qualify for the discounted rate. But you do have to pre-register your visit. Call Erich Goldstein at 717.509.6387.

Fall Season Pass: Exclusively for Home School families, Lancaster Science Factory is offering a Fall Season Pass. For $25, Home School families can purchase the equivalent of a family membership that is good until Dec. 31, 2009. Pass holders will enjoy free admission at Lancaster Science Factory and at other science museums around the nation through the ASTC Passport Program. The pass also entitles the family to a 10% discount on any of our retail items and $1 off any of the Factory Direct Science Classes through December. To qualify, you must provide a copy of paperwork proving that your family is home schooling during the 2009-2010 academic year. Call Erich Goldstein at 717.509.6387 if you have any questions.
