Don't Be "Nervous"...Brain Day is Coming!

LANCASTER, PA (March 9, 2010) - Don't be nervous! Lancaster General College and the Lancaster Science Factory are hosting an exploration of your senses, nervous system and brain.

On Saturday, March 20th from 12-3pm at the Lancaster Science Factory, visitors can touch a human brain, see how their eyes work, confuse their sense of touch and learn how their sense of taste depends on their sense of smell. Visitors' brains will get a work out with these hands on activities led by Lancaster General College.

March 15th thru 21st marks the 15th anniversary of Brain Awareness Week. Dr. Stacey Ruch says the week helps people learn about the brain and brain research and makes it fun. Brain Day at the Lancaster Science Factory is a celebration of this week.

"For Brain Day we're going to have fun with anatomy and playing games with our senses, learning how they work in the process," said Dr. Ruch. "There will be a real human brain that kids can touch with gloves on. We also have models of brains they can take apart and put back together. Student volunteers from Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences will be working with the visitors to the Lancaster Science Factory to look for our blind spot in our eye, and learn how our sense of smell helps us taste, and explore all of our senses."

Participation in Brain Day is free with general admission or membership with the Lancaster Science Factory.

The Lancaster Science Factory is a hands-on, interactive science and technology center. With over fifty exhibits demonstrating physical science, engineering and mathematics, children will learn that science is fun!
