Internships
The Internship Program at Lancaster Science Factory seeks mutually beneficial relationships with individual interns. Each intern will be provided with the opportunity to be creative, apply classroom studies in a practical application, and to develop personally and professionally. In return, Lancaster Science Factory will receive valuable assistance that contributes significantly to the Science Factory's goals.

Marketing and PR Internship

Internship Description
• Obtain perspective and experience regarding either a marketing, promotions or public relations position, specifically with a small nonprofit organization.
• To be a professional and positive ambassador for the Lancaster Science Factory.
• To perform marketing and public relations tasks to assist the Director of Operations.
• To assist, when necessary, other staff or departments in meeting objectives.
• Be a helpful, flexible and enthusiastic member of the LSF team.
• Fulfill every shift with adequate time management and productivity.
• Become invested in this opportunity. Be resourceful and creative. Take the initiative.
EXAMPLE OF INTERNSHIP TASKS
• Help set-up and implement special events as needed (for example: exhibit openings, facility rental, special programming, member events, etc.). Some nights and weekends will be involved.
• Experience as many LSF exhibits and programs as possible in order to properly promote the organization to the media and the public at large.
• Write press releases, build press kits and assist with press mailings.
• Perform market research via phone, internet and library.
• Assist with media relations, including delivering materials to publications.
• Assist with grass roots promotion of exhibits and events. You many need to travel around town with this task.
• Assist with the writing and production of LSF's quarterly membership newsletter.
• Help maintain LSF's collection of press clippings.
• Coordinate and implement marketing and promotional efforts for certain projects.

Internship Description
Internships in the Lancaster Science Factory's Education Department are designed to expose students to the high energy, multi-faceted world of science center or museum education. Students applying should understand that hours can be long and that the ability to multi-task and demonstrate initiative are crucial to a successful experience. There is no predictable day. A sense of humor is very helpful. A background in one or more of the following disciplines is required:
• Museum Studies
• Museum Education
• Education
• Sciences
Typical Duties
• Researching and learning all temporary exhibition content
• Shadowing a docent mentor
• Preparing a personalized tour of select exhibitions for the general public and/or school groups
• Implementing a tour
• Understanding and assisting with the floor management of groups
• Planning and directing activities in the classroom
• Preparing, identifying and collecting supplies for the classroom
• Engaging in any special projects designed to enhance visitor understanding of particular exhibition content. Special projects might include science projects with area schools, engaging and supporting classroom demonstrations, assisting with implementing activity stations on the exhibit floor, assisting with Girl and Boy Scout activities, etc.
• Researching and assisting with the development of curriculum that supports the learning experience of school children
• Preparing documents (good computer/writing skills required)
• Other duties as assigned

The Science Factory is looking for a creative intern to work with a web development company to create a new website. Responsibilities include working with a CMS to populate the website with data to make it reflective of an organization whose mission is to spark interest and creativity in children in the field of science and technology.

Social Media Networking Intern

The successful candidate will be a positive team player with excellent communication and organizational skills who enjoys interacting with the public and is dedicated to the mission of The Lancaster Science Factory.
Internship Description:
The Lancaster Science Factory (LSF) is looking an independent and innovative intern to advance the organizational goals through the use of social networking. The intern would be responsible for creating, designing and operating LSF's social networking pages. The goal of this position will to increase the organization's online presence, reach a larger audience, gather information and increase awareness. Additionally, the intern's responsibilities would include research of social network marketing trends, report of these findings and implementation of relevant strategies.
The internship can be performed remotely and would involve a commitment of 10-15 hours a week throughout the semester (flexible start/end dates).
This part-time, unpaid intern will report to the Director of Operations and will work with other staff as needed. The internship does not require any in office hours. Projects and duties include:
1. Research social networking strategies and trends.
2. Participate in strategic development discussions regarding the LSF's on-going plan as it relates to social networking.
3. Design dynamic social network pages on social networks such as Facebook, My Space, Friendster, Linkedin, Flickr, etc.
4. Post, update and distribute informational materials, media advisories and calendar listings.
5. Implement online awareness and fundraising campaigns.
6. Monitor the presence of similar nonprofits on social networking sites.
Desired qualifications: Applicants will be selected for an interview based on information provided in their cover letter and resume.
Specific qualifications are as follows:
1. Strong understanding of social media and social networking with the ability to efficiently research these sites.
2. A creative and innovative thinker with the ability to understand and explain the role of social networking in the non profit sector, especially volunteerism.
3. Good attention to detail.
4. Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide written reports as needed.
5. A connection to the museum community or related hfields is helpful.
6. Knowledge of Photoshop, Flash, and CSS a plus but not required.
