Grant Given to the Lancaster Science Factory Pays Admission for 6th Grade Field TripsLANCASTER, PA (July 29, 2010) When school is back in session, sixth graders will have a great opportunity for hands-on science at the Lancaster Science Factory. During the 2010-2011 school year, 6th grade classes in Lancaster County can visit the Lancaster Science Factory with free admission thanks to a grant given by two anonymous donors. At a time when many school districts are cutting field trip budgets, the Lancaster Science Factory 6th Grade Field Trip Program allows 6th grade classes to visit for free. The grant will pay for admission of any 6th grade class in Lancaster County-public, private, or homeschooled-that enrolls in the program. Teachers and chaperones are free as part of the normal admission policy of the Science Factory. The recommended time for field trips at the Science Factory is two hours, but classes are free to stay as long as they like. The grant does not cover transportation costs, so visiting classes must schedule and pay for their transportation to the Science Factory. Sixth grade class visits must be scheduled ahead of time in order to qualify for free admission under the grant. One of the Science Factory's goals is to be accessible to all youth in Lancaster County. The Lancaster Science Factory 6th Grade Field Trip Program along with other grants and programs at the Science Factory help reach that goal. The Science Factory houses over fifty exhibits that align with Pennsylvania Academic Standards to explore concepts in physical science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Hands-on exhibits allow children to learn in an interactive environment outside of the classroom. The Lancaster Science Factory is a non-profit science and technology center located at 454 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA. The mission of the Lancaster Science Factory is to create an environment of learning which helps children develop curiosity, think creatively and build self-confidence as they learn the principles of science and the application of science in engineering and technology.
