1. So what exactly do you offer? We have over 50 hands-on exhibits, not for reading and admiring, but for touching, using, and experimenting with. Each exhibit deals with a topic in physical science or mathematics, and they are all aligned to PSSA Curriculum Standards. In addition at the Bunting Science Café, who knows what hands-on science acitivities you will find. It could be anything from rockets to worms, making paint or making fire. top2. And where is the Factory?454 New Holland Ave It's the old Kerr Glass Factory if you remember that. Just a couple blocks from the heart of downtown. top3. I know getting there is half the fun, but how do we do so?Take US Highway 30 to the New Holland Ave exit. Head south (toward Lancaster). The Factory is about 2 miles from US 30 on the left hand side. If you're coming by bus, feel free to pull in right in front of the Factory for unloading. But the parking is in a lot across New Holland Avenue. top4. Show me the numbers! What price are we talking about? Our group rates apply to groups of 10 or more. Chaperones (within a certain ratio) are free. Additional chaperones will be charged the group rate. Starting September 1st, 2010, our group rate will increase to $5.00 per person. We will honor the $4.50 rate for any group that books their field trip before September 1st, regardless of the date of the field trip (2010/2011 school year). Any reservation made after September 1st, the $5.00 rate will apply. If you have 9 or fewer, there is no group rate available. It would be our regular admission prices. top5. Is the Field Trip guided? No, but yes. Who doesn't love an answer like that? No, the Field Trips are self-guided. We recommend splitting your large group into small ones, each with a chaperone. Those small groups can then freely explore. So what's with the "but yes?" Well, we have several Activity Guides you can use to direct students based on curriculum, or just to rotate your small groups throughout the Factory. top6. Chaperones? We don't need no stinkin' chaperones. Do we? (By the way, this is paraphrasing Treasure of the Sierra Madre, not intended to disparage chaperones in any way.)Yes, you do need chaperones. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for the behavior of the children. How many you need depends on the age of the children. For children age 9 or younger, we ask for one chaperone for every four children. For children age 10 or older, we ask for one chaperone for every six children. These chaperones are admitted free of charge. Woohoo! top7. Start time? Duration? Talk to me about the clock. We start taking school groups when we open at 10 AM. But many groups prefer to come in the afternoon. Most start around 12:30 PM. We recommend you plan on 2 hours for the students to enjoy our exhibit floor. topThe Field Trip Reservation Form download |
